Donate disused sporting goods

Hedland residents who have old or disused sports equipment can make sure it goes to a good cause by popping it into a collection point at the JD Hardie Youth Zone.

JDyZ is now taking donations for a charity called Fair Game, which recycles sports equipment to deliver health and wellbeing programs to disadvantaged communities.

Town of Port Hedland library services co-ordinator Sharon Groch said JDyZ staff reached out to Fair Game to get a regional collection point in town.

"Fair Game did one of their regional visits and the team at JD Hardie were quite excited about the program, so they made an approach to Fair Game to become one of their collection points," she said. "There's a long list of items on their wish list on the website, but it doesn't really matter what type of equipment it is, anything that can be used to play sport is welcome.

"It's the only regional collection point at this stage, so it makes it far easier to get the equipment out to regional communities from here instead of having to transport it up via a trucking company."

Fair Game regional co-ordinator Pilbara Sarah Power encouraged anyone with old sports equipment to get down to the JD Hardie and donate.

She said the charity would be in Marble Bar, Nullagine and Warralong this week to run health exercise and health promotion sessions.
