Fresh food focus of event

Locals packed into Dalgety House to enjoy the fruits of their labour at the Care for Hedland Environmental Association's Harvest Dinner earlier this month.

The evening was a chance for people to bring home-cooked meals made from fresh produce sourced in the Hedland community.

But the night was merely an entree for the candlelit Pilbara Food Festival Long Table Harvest Dinner coming up next month.

Town of Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett said the event would be a celebration of food.

"Care for Hedland Environmental Association is proud to partner with Form this year to bring together the very first Pilbara Long Table Harvest Dinner, to be held in conjunction with the West End Markets," she said.

"We're hoping this can become an annual event."

The event begins in front of the Port Hedland Visitor Centre on Wedge Street at 7pm on Saturday, August 30.

Local producers and former MasterChef contestant Liliana Battle will join forces to tantalise guests with dishes that re-connect diners with growing and using delicious local produce.

ABC Gardening Australia's Josh Byrne will also be on hand to discuss re-connecting with the land.

The night will feature live music and a licensed bar.

Tickets are limited and cost $60 each or $40 for local producers or contributors, and are available at the Port Hedland Visitor Centre, the Courthouse Gallery and Care for Hedland.
