One dead in tour bus crash on Great Ocean Road
A woman has died and six other people have been injured, one critically, when a tourist bus left Victoria's Great Ocean Road and plunged down a ravine.
The bus, believed to be carrying Korean tourists, left the road and crashed down an embankment at the intersection of The Boulevard at Gellibrand Lower, south-east of Port Campbell, shorty before 2pm.
Victoria Police said the woman died at the scene, and a critically injured male passenger was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne.
The male bus driver and another passenger with serious injuries were also airlifted to Melbourne, while three other passengers with minor injuries were taken to Geelong.
"We believe that most of the patients are Korean nationals; they were on a sightseeing tour on The Great Ocean Road," Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Holman told Fairfax Radio.
"It is quite a remote scene and getting resources in there has been difficult."
The Great Ocean Road, a popular tourist drive, was closed to traffic between Princetown and Gellibrand River roads after the accident, which happened about 1.40pm on Thursday.
The woman's death takes Victoria's road toll to 143, compared with 131 at the same time last year.
