Arrest made over car explosion in Adelaide's south

An explosion at a crash repair business in Adelaide’s southern suburbs could have cost lives, according to police.

Debris was sent flying 100 metres when the Toyota Camry was destroyed at the Seaford crash repairer about 5.30pm yesterday.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested.

Police allege he blew up the car by filling it with oxyacetylene gas and igniting it.

Neighbouring businesses were showered with car parts and glass, and witnesses said the car roof flew at least 50 metres into the air.

The explosion sent shockwaves through the area, even knocking picture frames off walls at a retirement village nearby.

No one was injured in the incident.

The arrested man remains in custody and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Police have seized CCTV video from the property and say more arrests could be made.
