Homeowners pan for gold at Badgery's Creek

Bagdery’s Creek homeowners could be sitting on goldmines as state and federal governments seek to acquire land for the major infrastructure projects surrounding Sydney’s second airport.

Lawyer Michael Vassili is helping landowners negotiate the acquisition maze.

“The government knocks on the door and they say they want to acquire the land, and they think they have won lotto,” Mr Vassili said.

In the residential area next to the second airport at Badgery's creek, residents are waiting for the big offers to flow in.

Lenko Kilich bought 11 hectares 58 years ago for 9,000 pounds, and his land could now be worth millions.

Nearby, residences along Schofields Road sold for millions of dollars after the North West Rail Link saw houses soar in value.

Both 71 and 81 Schofields Road were originally bought for less than $200,000 and sold for over $3.7 million.

While the land for the airport has already been acquired, surrounding land will be snapped up for industrial estates, motels, fast food chains, hangars and everything ancillary to a major airport.
