Vintage bikes head to Albany
Albany will play host to arguably the most extensive collection of vintage motorcycles in the State when two local clubs combine for a good cause later this month.
The Albany Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Club and the Albany Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club of WA have combined to host the Albany Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Show on the Anzac Day weekend.
Event co-ordinator Paul Armstrong said both clubs, which have a combined membership of more than 200, had begun working together to make the show — which will raise funds for Albany Community Hospice — happen.
After organising a similar event four years ago when 3000 Ulysses Motorcycle Club members visited Albany for its annual general meeting, Mr Armstrong said Albany had a huge vintage motorcycle base.
“We have got some super rare and very expensive bikes,” he said.
“This will be one of the biggest (shows) in WA, certainly outside of Perth.”
The collection of pre-1989 bikes will include some of the rarest and oldest, including motorcycles from as early as 1905.
Mr Armstrong said he expected close to 130 entrants, the majority local riders, to support the event at the Dowsetts Automotive Services showroom on Sanford Road.
“We want to raise as much as possible,” he said.
“Both clubs are reasonably financial and we saw this as a very good cause.”
“This is a huge collection, you would just not realise how big it is.”
The Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Show will be held on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, open from 9.30am both days.
