Hockey: Good turnout for second game

The second game of the season for the Nickol Bay Hockey Association last Wednesday saw a good turnout of old and new faces.

After introductions and a quick warm-up, it was straight into the game, using indoor rules.

Peter Pitt-Lancaster managed to score the first goal, deflecting the ball into the right-hand corner of the goals and giving the Dark team an early lead.

New players Sophie Sparks and Sharneece Brown faced up on opposite sides, and were evenly matched throughout the game, both showing good skills and will be ones to watch in the future.

Another new player to the club, Zack VanBakkum, was also impressive in defence for the Dark team, making several interceptions and good clearances to the wings.

His opponent, Light team's Declan Tussler, kept him and the rest of the defence under the pump, and ended up with two goals for his efforts, contributing to his team's end total of four.

Other notable mentions were Dark's Steve Pederick, with his good running up the right wing and a goal, and Light's Adam Grill, another newbie to the club and very handy in defence.

The game ended in a narrow 4-3 scoreline in the Light team's favour.

Games are played each Wednesday evening at 6.30pm at the Bulgarra tennis courts. Any level of skill is welcome. For more information, visit www.nickolbayhockey.myclub.org or contact Steve Cook on 9144 4423
