CWA celebrates 85 years in Narrogin

State management committee representatives Pam Beatson and Nicola Kelliher with Joan Porter, Narrogin president Lucy Gibson and Isobel Hornex.

The Narrogin branch of the Country Women’s Association celebrated its 85th anniversary this month.

The luncheon was an opportunity for members to talk about their time with the association and a chance to catch up with members from other branches and the state management committee.

The Narrogin branch opened in 1929 with 12 members, at its peak had 120 members and today there are 13.

CWA president Lucy Gibson said she was delighted to be a part of the CWA.

“I’m proud of our achievement,” she said.

“The CWA is always here to help — it’s for country women, by country women.”

In Narrogin, the CWA was instrumental in establishing the Narrogin Cottage Homes, giving to drought and fire victims and participating in motions for the betterment of the town.

“Eighty-five years of consecutive service is quite an achievement,” Mrs Gibson said.
