Anzac Day will hold even more meaning this year for WA history enthusiast Jacob Baron.

_The Year 11 Willetton Senior High School student will be one of eight young Australians at Gallipoli on Anzac Day after becoming the WA winner of the 2014 Simpson Prize. _

The competition asked students to consider how well the Anzac legend told the stories of individual Australian soldiers in World War I.

Jacob, 15, who also won the National History Challenge in Year 7, wrote about 1000 words to conclude that the legend represented some soldiers but not Aboriginal soldiers, women nurses and others.

Jacob will attend the dawn service at Gallipoli and give a reading at the Lone Pine ceremony.

He said seeing the battlefields firsthand would make the legend more real and important.
