Heat on Abbott over climate

The Federal Government's top climate change adviser Bernie Fraser has accused Tony Abbott of putting the interests of big business ahead of the community by failing to tackle global warming.

In a speech to the National Press Club yesterday, the former Reserve Bank governor also criticised the coalition's "Direct Action" policy, warning the scale of emissions reduction proposed was driven by short-term budgetary considerations rather than science.

The former Labor government chose Mr Fraser to chair the Climate Change Authority.
