'Sadistic pleasure' from attack
Francis John Wark appeared to take "some sadistic amusement or pleasure" from a "barbaric" rape attack he carried out at his remote farmhouse in Millaa Millaa, a Queensland court was told in 2007.
The Weekend West has obtained court documents that reveal the horrific details of the crimes he committed against a 32-year-old woman in June that year. Sentencing Wark to 13 years jail, Justice Sarah Bradley described the violent and sexual assaults of the woman as "shocking and horrible".
The sentence was reduced to 12 years on appeal in 2008.
Justice Bradley said the offending began after he offered the woman a lift and invited her to his home, where he turned on her in "a very brutal, violent and sadistic manner".
The prosecution said Wark used violence "without hesitation" when he hit the woman repeatedly with heavy blows to her head when she tried to leave his property.
"You continued to inflict gratuitous violence upon her throughout the episode, including hitting her on the body and slapping her," Justice Bradley said.
Wark pleaded guilty to five counts of rape, five counts of sexual assault, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, assault with intent to rape and deprivation of liberty.
