House destroyed in $500k blaze at Glenunga

A South Australia couple away overseas has lost their house in a $500,000 fire at Glenunga this morning.

Fire crews arrived less than five minutes after neighbours reported the fire on Trevorten Avenue, but they were powerless to save the heritage listed bungalow, which the couple had called home for more than 40 years.

“I ran up to see if these was someone inside, but things started to explode, it was too dangerous,” one neighbor told 7News.

Neighbours told crews the residents were away on holiday, but the blaze was so fierce firefighters could not get inside to search.

“The roof started collapsing so we undertook a defensive mode of firefighting to contain the fire,” Greg Davis from the MFS said.

Neighbor Ossie Carrabs said the couple is set to return from overseas in three days.

An electrical fault in the roof has been blamed for the fire.
