Mum tells of agony in out of control bus

A victim of Monday's dramatic Bayside bus crash has told of her terrifying ordeal.

Lucinda Venn was hit by an out of control bus in her backyard.

She says thoughts of her children inspired her to survive after she was hit head on.

"I had to stay, I had to stay alive for them and my mum," she said.

"Hearing mum's voice when I said mum.. just hearing mum's voice and feeling relived she was there, because I thought she was gone too."

Lucinda was having morning tea with her mother Daphne when they heard the bus collide with a car 60 metres away.

It smashed through two fences towards them.

"When I turned around I saw a bus, the side of a bus, and no Lucinda," Daphne said.

"I thought she was under the bus ... and I just prayed."

Daphne was supposed to go back to London next week, but will stay by Lucinda's side for her recovery along with the family who've flown in from around Australia.

Lucinda has back fractures, a broken shoulder, a neck fracture and a punctured lung.

The single mother is trying not to think about who's at fault, but she does have a new outlook.

"Just appreciate the life that you've got, your family that you have, because you never know when you might be hit by a bus," she laughed.
