Terrifying Northampton clown exposed

A terrifying looking clown that sparked fear and curiosity around the world has been exposed as a university student.

Young budding filmmaker Alex Powell was revealed as the man behind the clown likened to Stephen King's Pennywise from the book It.

The scary photo of the clown terrorising Northampton became an internet sensation, garnering worldwide attention and receiving over 185,000 'likes' on Facebook.

A British newspaper exposed 22-year-old Powell after he was pictured leaving a house dressed as the scary clown.

When confronted by a journalist, "OK, I am the clown but I've been trying to keep it as mysterious as possible. To be discreet so people didn't find out.".

Powell had originally denied the claim, posting on Facebook: "There's been lots of rumours that I'm the 'Northampton Clown' but I am NOT! But thanks for the interest as its shot my views right up ... And I don't live in Northampton anymore".

However, the post was later deleted.

Powell had been sending shivers down the spines of Northampton locals since September 13.

He admitted that while many had taken his antics with good nature, not everyone had enjoyed his appearances.

"It was just a bit of fun at first and a lot of people seem to enjoy it but it gets a bit hard sometimes with the death threats," he said.
