Mitchell Marsh inspires Broome students

Rising Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh inspired local students to be the best when he paid a visit to Broome last week.

The all-rounder Western Warriors star arrived in town for the first time to host a series of sport clinics at Broome primary schools and St Mary's College as part of the Regional Awareness and Recruitment Campaign.

Marsh flew up with Western Australian Cricket Association regional cricket officers and staff to promote the sport and engage with students through clinics.

At the end of each session, Marsh coached the students during friendly cricket matches and said he was impressed with the talent on display.

"We had a few (pupils) from Cable Beach Primary that were naturals," he said.

"Kids need to know that a lot of people from regional areas go on to play professional sports, so it's important we get kids playing in country areas."

Despite growing up in Perth, the 21-year-old said he was a country boy at heart and looked forward to touring regional areas to inspire young players to reach their goals.

"The more kids we can get playing cricket down at the junior clubs, the better it is for our game," he said.

He was also passionate about promoting recreational lifestyles for youngsters.

"The biggest thing is getting them playing and getting them outside," he said.

"It doesn't necessarily have to be cricket, but playing sports and exercising and being healthy is the main thing we like to get across."

Despite being on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury, Marsh said he was focused on training for the Warriors for the start of the season.
