Optimism, faith and humility were nominated as the key traits of Dockers fans yesterday as diehard supporters said their hopes never waned and were finally paying off.

Margaret Clark, daughters Natasha and Andrea Clark, and grandchildren Ben, Tommy and Abigale Egan represented three generations of supporters as they celebrated in Fremantle yesterday.

Natasha said an enduring ability to stay positive and hopeful separated Dockers fans from the rest.

East Fremantle resident Rhyl Ballantyne said the fans were typically humble.

"We have spent so many years struggling and copping it from Eagles supporters," she said at a South Terrace cafe with children Hosken and Charis. "It's a working class humility. Everyone is quite humble and willing to work really hard."

Kerri Wakefield and Martin Coll said loyalty through thick and thin was finally paying off.

"I have always loved them whether they were winning or losing," Ms Wakefield said. "We have been loyal and waited because we had faith in them."
