Students wear yellow as a little goes a long way

A wet and gloomy day turned bright at Meadow Springs Primary School on Friday, as students filled the halls dressed in yellow.

Students had the option of free dress for the school’s Wear Yellow for Hope Day, for a cancer free future, to help raise money for medical research.

Meadow Springs Primary School education support centre principal Gwen Evans said the goal of the day was to teach students that a small donation could go a long way.

“I think it is important for the kids to be aware that there are other people out there who are less fortunate than themselves and if we work together we can make a difference,” she said.

“We have over 900 students plus staff, so if everyone is involved we can raise over $1000 for research.”

Mrs Evans said as well as raising much needed money students were able to have a bit of fun.

“It is nice to wear something different to school and the students enjoy it,” she said. Mrs Evans said the school was looking at supporting a different cause each term.

“Earlier this year the students wore blue for Autism Day because we have a lot of students with autism,” she said.

“We are a new school, this is only our second year of operation, so we are looking to hold more events.”

All of the money raised from the day will go to the WA Institute for Medical Research.
