New Zealand struck by earthquake

New Zealand has been struck by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake.

The quake was located 10km south-east of Seddon and there are reports it was felt as far away as Auckland, over 900km away.

Preliminary data says the quake was at a depth of around 8km at its epicentre.

Early reports suggest no major damage.

The quake was felt strongly in Wellington where all trains and planes have been suspended while checks are being carried out.

There is no tsunami alert.
