Teen dies after shark attack

A teenager, who got into difficulty swimming and was then tragically killed by a bull shark, was just seconds away from being rescued by a lifeguard on a jet ski, newly-released video has revealed.

Eighteen-year-old Bruna Gobbi was swimming at Boa Viagem beach in the Brazilian city of Recife, according to local reports.

She was bitten by the shark on her left leg and then rushed to hospital where she is reported to have undergone amputation, but had already lost too much blood and died.

Video released by security cameras show how lifeguards responded when Bruna was spotted in trouble in the water.

However, as they approached a huge splash went up around her before a pool of blood is spotted in the water.

She was taken to shore for treatment but her injuries were to prove fatal.

Her cousin Daniele Gobbi, who was swimming alongside Bruna when the attack took place, told Globo TV: ‘ “We knew there were risks of an attack, but I didn't think that it would happen in the shallow (water), but in the deep.”
