Looters caught on camera attacking biker, stealing scooter
As the UK government struggles to put a lid on last week’s violent rioting and looting on London’s streets by imposing new curfew laws, shocking new footage has emerged of a man being pulled from his scooter by rioters in south London.
The footage shows an unidentified scooter rider attempting to negotiate a crowded street in Croydon.
Everything looks normal, except the crowd on the street is soon revealed to be a pack of looters.
The rider is seen getting chased by a hooded thug who grabs him by the neck and pulls him to the ground as another youth makes off with the scooter.
He makes an attempt to get up and chase down the looter but is brought to his feet by another thug who kicks him in the back.
The video was posted on YouTube by a user called Markosilla on August 10 and has since been viewed 4,471 times.
On Monday, another dramatic video was released of two London policemen being hit by a car as they chased looters during last week’s riots.
The footage of the attacks and looting emerged as Home Secretary Theresa May announced government's new plans to empower police tackle future outbreaks of violence.
"Under existing laws, there is no power to impose a general curfew in a particular area, and, while curfew conditions can be placed on some offenders as part of their Asbo, criminal sentence or bail conditions, there are only limited powers to impose them on somebody under the age of 16," the Home Secretary said.
