Aussie almost KOs doubles partner with thunderous return

Aussie doubles specialist John Peers almost found himself without a partner after hitting Henri Kontinen in the head with a thunderous return.

Peers and Kontinen were in action on Hisense Arena on Monday afternoon when the bizarre incident occured.

The Australian was receiving in a second set tiebreak when he loaded up on a return and accidentally sent it straight at Kontinen's head.

The impact sent the ball flying off the court and Kontinen immediately headed off for some time out.

In normal speed the impact was quite scary, and the slow motion replays show the ball collect Kontinen just above the left ear.

Luckily the Finnish player was able to regather himself, helping Peers take the match in three sets.
