Former professional soccer player denied bail over torture charges
A former professional soccer player has been denied bail after he was the second man charged over the alleged torture of a woman at a Brisbane townhouse earlier this month.
The Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday heard Jeromy Lee Harris allegedly knew the 21-year-old woman who was injured and burnt in his Bulimba apartment.
It’s further alleged the victim was taken from a hotel, wrapped in a sheet and thrown in a car boot.
Harris’ co-accused Nicholas Crilley was allegedly seen on hotel CCTV footage on June 29 carrying a “small human-shaped object” wrapped in a sheet.
Harris, 41, a former National Soccer League midfielder for the Brisbane Strikers, Marconi, and Sydney Olympic, was arrested on Thursday and charged with multiple offences including torture and deprivation of liberty.
His co-accused, Crilley, was charged on Tuesday after evading police through several Brisbane suburbs.
Crilley's 21-year-old girlfriend remains in an induced coma after allegedly being tortured over a three week period.
It's believed 41-year-old Harris owned the unit where the victim was found.
Mr Harris was a NSL duel premiership winning player with Brisbane in 1997 and Sydney in 2002.
