NSW police arrested the Sydney man at Parramatta train station in Sydney's west at about 5pm on Thursday and charged him with online child exploitation offences.

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad allege the man believed he was speaking online with a 14-year-old boy and engaged in sexually-explicit conversations with the child, making arrangements to meet for sex.

The 56-year-old man was arrested by officers at the train station and led away to Parramatta police station, where he was charged with using a carriage service to procure persons under 16 and to groom persons under 16.
