Six-year-old girl killed in quad bike crash

A six-year-old girl has died after a quad bike being driven by a 13-year-old girl crashed into a tree in regional New South Wales.

The bike was carrying three girls on a farm near Pilliga, 100 kilometres west of Narrabri on Sunday afternoon when it struck two trees.

The young girl died at the scene, while the driver was flown to Sydney Children’s Hospital with head injuries.

Another 13-year-old girl was not injured.

A second quad bike with a further two 13-year-old girls were not involved in the crash and were not injured, however it’s believed none of the five girls were wearing helmets, Fairfax Media reported.

Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash “including if any of the children were wearing helmets."
