Pedestrian dies in hospital after footpath crash

A woman who was struck by an out-of-control car while walking along a footpath in Sydney's north last week has died in hospital.

Heather Croxon, 31, was on Chatswood's Victoria Ave last Friday morning when the sedan, being driven by a 67-year-old man, veered onto a kerb, flipped and ploughed into a pram before hitting her.

The vehicle then crashed into a pole, hit a motorbike and flipped onto its side, coming to rest on the footpath outside a Chinese restaurant.

While the child in the pram escaped injury, Ms Croxon suffered critical head injuries.

She died at Royal North Shore Hospital on Wednesday, five days after the crash, police say.

Ms Croxon, originally from Davistown on the state's Central Coast, moved to Chatswood recently and was working in office administration.

It's believed her mother had rushed from the Central Coast to be by her side in hospital.

She described herself as an "avid reader, occasional writer and lover of baked goods" on her book-review blog, and was completing a Bachelor's degree in professional writing and publishing at university via correspondence.

Tributes have begun flowing in on social media for Ms Croxon, who's been remembered as a "beautiful, young lady".

"Heather Croxon was a young, vibrant , gorgeous young women with the world at her feet," friend Sandie Stacey posted on Facebook.

"She was so loved, and all I wish was that I'd told her so more often," another friend Shaina Coogan also wrote.

"Heather's kindness, humour, and reliable presence meant so much to me," she said.

The 67-year-old man driving the sedan was treated for minor injuries and has undergone mandatory blood and urine testing.

Another woman, believed to be the mother of the child in the pram, was treated for shock.

Officers are continuing to investigate the crash and have urged any witnesses to contact them.
