"I am putting my career on the line. I am resigning from the LNP," Dixon began.

“I’ve made so many friends throughout my electorate. I’m a proud Queenslander. The two major parties have lost their way,” Dixon continued.

The member for Buderim has removed the LNP logo from his website and fronted a press conference with One Nation leader Pauline Hanson on the Sunshine Coast.

Mr Dickson, who was racing minister in the Newman government, reportedly notified the LNP of his defection on Friday morning.

Dickson cited his wish for an amnesty for medical cannabis users as a key factor in his decision.

He said his appeals for action on the matter fell on deaf ears in the major political parties and Senator Hanson was the only one willing to take up the issue.

"A young lady who was in my office, just this Monday gone, has a brain tumour and was using this exact same product so that she can stay alive," he said.

"I called on the Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk and also the Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull over a week ago to grant amnesty, so that these people can access this life-saving drug to keep their children alive."

Hanson has vowed to reveal a shake-up in Queensland politics commenting, "Get set Queensland. Pauline Hanson's One Nation is in this next state election to win government," Hanson said in an earlier statement.
