Young girl almost jumps on brown snake hiding in blow-up dinghy

One young girl's splash in a backyard pool nearly turned deadly when she spotted an eastern brown snake hiding in an inflatable dinghy.

Melissa Fenton's 11-year-old daughter Stacie was about to take the boat for a splash before noticing the highly venomous snake.

The mother from South Australia called a snake catcher to take the reptile away from her home in Glen Osmond on Tuesday.

"I received a call from a mum who said she had an eastern brown snake in a blow-up boat near the pool," the snake cater said.

"I was about 15 minutes away and by the time I got there the snake was still in the boat.

"It was a hot day and all the four kids had been in and out of the pool all day, her daughter was about to jump in the boat when very luckily she saw a snake in there," the snake catcher said.

The reptile woman added if the girl had hopped in the boat "it would have bitten her for sure".

Not deterred by the brush with the second-most venomous snake in the world, the kids were back in the pool later that afternoon.

It must be summer in Australia.
