The boy was flown to Adelaide from Mount Gambier on Tuesday in a critical condition.

A 18-year-old man, a 29-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman are all in a stable condition in Adelaide after being hospitalised with meningococcal.

Seventeen other people who have been in contact with the three people have been contacted.

Parents have been urged to get their children vaccinated against the B strain of the disease.

A shortage of supply means the vaccination is unlikely to be available until January.

There have been 24 cases of invasive meningococcal disease reported in South Australia this year, compared with 27 cases this time last year.

A total of 30 cases were reported in 2015.
