Man behind fetish alter ego 'The Wolf' unmasked after rape charges

The identity of a Sydney man known as "The Wolf", who built up a huge following on a fetish website, has been exposed after he was charged with rape.

Liam Gordon Murphy gained an enormous online following on a fetish website called "FetLife" and even published a book called The Wolf detailing his sexual exploits.

Now, after being charged with raping a woman in a Kings Cross hotel, his identity has been revealed.

The 41-year-old, born in England, was arrested in October and police seized several computers as part of an investigation, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and attempted aggravated sexual assault after meeting a woman through FetLife, according to the paper.

FetLife is a social media website with almost 5.4 million members which describes itself as: "Like Facebook, but run by kinksters like you and me."

Men wanted to emulate him and he referred to women as his "maidens", the Herald reported.

A description online for his book says, "Sexual dominance is not a work of fiction, a paperback novel, or 50 shades of anything for me; it's my life. From a very young age, I felt an overwhelming, sometimes crippling urge to dominate girls and women. To take, to own, to push them until they show me who they really are. But that urge was countered by an equally powerful desire to protect and cherish them.

"This book is a collection of true-life short stories from my early years, grappling with the duality of what I often regarded as my twisted being into adulthood, when I finally learnt to embrace and revel in it. It details some of the amazing sexual encounters I've enjoyed with the spectacular women I've known, and my often conflicted thought processes throughout them."

People who associated with Mr Murphy in real life said he protected his identity, according to the newspaper.

Mr Murphy was granted bail and is due to appear in court in December.

His profile is believed to no longer be active and his book is reported to be no longer available.
