Man talked down from Sydney rooftop, taken to hospital for assessment

A man armed with a meat cleaver sparked a stand-off with police, after climbing onto the roof of a Sydney house on Saturday.

Police say the stand-off lasted more than four hours after officers arrived at the Coogee home around 8pm.

Officers established a perimetre around the home after reports the man was making threats.

The man armed himself with the meat cleaver and climbed onto the roof of a house before kicking tiles off the Alison Road property.

Negotiators were able to talk the man down about 12.20am on Sunday, where he surrendered to police without further incident.

The man was later taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for assessment.
