Gold Coast mother accused of newborn’s death seeks bail

A mother who allegedly murdered her newborn son before leaving his body on top of a washing machine has applied for bail.

According to News Corp police claim Gold Coast mother, Jodie Renee Tarnawskyj, neglected to tell her family about her pregnancy before killing her son shortly after his birth.

A crowded courtroom heard paramedics discovered the newborn wrapped in towels in June, 2014 according to News Corp.

It’s reported the mother called ambulance officers for a ‘non-urgent’ issue.

However the accused, a former dietician claims she was unaware of the pregnancy until she gave birth to a stillborn son on the toilet.

However prosecutors assert the baby was alive and well when he was born and that air was reportedly found in his lungs as evidence he was breathing when he was born.

According to reports prosecutor believe that in the months leading up to the birth, the accused booked and cancelled a termination and research how to abort pregnancy online.

The courtroom also heard that the new mother waiting 17 hours after her son’s death before making a call to emergency services for assistance.

Tarnawskyj has been in police custody since her arrest for the murder on October 31 2014.

Her lawyer applied for bail in the Queensland Supreme Court on May 10, 2016 and the application will be heard on June 1.
