Woman dresses up as nurse, steals baby in handbag

A woman allegedly disguised herself as a nurse and stole a newborn baby from a hospital in China after having a miscarriage.

‘Zhao Juan’ lost her baby in the early stages of her pregnancy, reportedly due to her own carelessness.

She didn't tell her family however, as she didn't want to disappoint them.

On August 23, Ms Juan allegedly snuck into the maternity ward at Hongze Chinese Hospital of Herbal Medicine and stole a mother’s baby boy.

It’s believed she smuggled the child out in her handbag.

Ms Zhao then allegedly went back home, faked her own childbirth and called an ambulance.

The only problem with her plan, however, was that she was taken back to the hospital she allegedly stole the child from.

Police were called to the hospital after the baby’s mother, who is known under the pseudonym of Wang Li, realised her little boy was missing.

After reviewing CCTV footage, officer’s realised Ms Zhao had arrived at the hospital in her own clothes, but left in a nurses uniform carrying a bulging bag.

When she turned up claiming to have just given birth, hospital staff also noticed that Ms Zhao did not show any physical signs of childbirth.

She was interrogated by police and later confessed to the crime.

The investigation continues.
