Alarming footage has surfaced of a US police officer firing a stun gun on a 13-year-old boy.

The video was shared on Facebook after San Diego deputy officer Jeremy Banks apprehended the teen who had run away from home.

In the video the boy is seen on the ground, leaning against the officer who is on his knees.

The officer then places a Taser on the teens back and stuns him, while holding the boy in a choke hold.

US police have defended their co-worker and said the teen was ‘out of control’ – according to the San Diego Tribune.

“Use of force is never something pretty to watch,” Sheriff Bill Gore told media.

“The deputy was very conscientious in this case, following up on the lead, trying repeatedly to get the juvenile to go in the car so he can be returned to his mother,” he said.
