Young crash victim 'had just beaten cancer'

A nine-year-old boy killed in a single-vehicle crash at the weekend had just won a brave battle against cancer.

Kaleb Smith was killed when the car he was in lost control on a bend, before it came off the road and rolled on Sunday night in Lindenow.

His 12-year-old sister and a 12-year-old boy were taken to the Royal Children's Hospital.

His seven-year-old brother suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bairnsdale Hospital.

Kaleb was diagnosed with Burkitt's Leukaemia in 2012 but was declared in remission about a year ago, News Corp reports.

He was given the all-clear again earlier this year.

"He was too good for this world, obviously," Kaleb's aunty Bec White told News Corp.

"They tried to take him with cancer and now they took him with this.

"He was just so brave. He fought it and fought it."

Kaleb, a pupil at Lindenow South Primary School, was treated at Monash Children's Hospital.

A post on the hospital's Facebook page today read: "We're extremely saddened to hear this tragic news and we're sending our thoughts and prayers to Kaleb's family. Such a brave little soul who never gave up the fight."

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Kaleb's family.
