Police hunt for BMX rider who allegedly assaulted women

A teenager who allegedly assaulted 10 women while passing on a BMX bike at Mawson Lakes, north of Adelaide, remains at large.

Police were trying to identify the male, aged between 16 and 18 years, after a woman was indecently assaulted while walking around a lake near Garden Terrace about 5:20pm (ACST) on Tuesday.

Police said the bike rider came up from behind and "touched her inappropriately" before riding east along Mawson Lakes Boulevard.

Ten such incidents had been identified since October, with the main suspect a teenager who appeared to be Caucasian, with a thin build and shoulder-length hair and riding a dark-coloured BMX.

Elizabeth Police investigating the events said the young man's actions amounted to sexual assault.

"While this person may think that grabbing a woman's buttocks is a joke or trivial matter, it is actually a serious charge," Senior Constable Chris Webber said.

"Although we do not think the behaviour will escalate, we understand that the community is rightly concerned and we do want to catch the offender.

"My message to the person involved is stop the childish behaviour, or the consequences may be much harsher than you expect."

No one was physically injured in the assaults, with most of them occurring in the late afternoon around Mawson Lakes.

Police said a sketch of a suspect released in late January was not considered to be connected to the series of assaults and was instead believed to be related to a single incident.
