Riot police operation at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court ends

A police operation that saw riot squad officers descend on Sydney's Downing Centre Court has ended.

Several armoured vehicles and armed officers arrived at the complex before 10:00am after reports of planned disruptions.

Members of the riot squad were both inside and outside the Liverpool Street building for several hours while a helicopter hovered overhead.

There were no evacuations and no disruptions to the courts.

The operation was in relation to a criminal from Sydney's west, who cannot be named as he has matters before the court.

The man is charged with offences that include participating in a criminal group and aggravated break and enter.

Police say the operation was in conjunction with the Department of Corrective Services.
