NT police uncover largest drug lab

The largest clandestine drug laboratory seen in the Northern Territory has been uncovered, police say.

A joint team from Alice Springs and Darwin busted the elaborate operation while executing a search warrant on a home in Alice Springs about 6pm on Friday.

Drug and Organised Crime Squad Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller said a 29-year-old man had been arrested.

"This is the largest illicit drug manufacturing operation we have located in the Northern Territory and it is concerning that this has all occurred in a suburban residential address," he said.

"The method used by this backyard chemist is known to have substantial risks of fire, explosion or producing harmful and potentially fatal fumes."

Police found a large quantity of a suspected schedule two dangerous substance, drug precursors, drug manufacturing glassware and firearms.

Emergency services have secured the home in Larapinta Drive.
