Missing boy found alive and well in Tasmania's south-east

A teenage boy who was missing for two days in southern Tasmania has been found safe and well.

Police said two Tassal employees en route to work spotted a boy fitting Jack Rumsley's description about 6:00am (AEDT) today.

After confirming the 14-year-old's identity the workers waited with him until police arrived.

The teenager had not been seen since he left his Woodsdale house, north of Hobart, for a bike ride on Saturday afternoon.

Jack was located in the Dunalley area, about 80 kilometres from his home.

Police said Jack had covered the entire distance on his bike.

He was found dry and well, and potentially took shelter in Dunalley overnight.

Inspector Matthew McCreadie would not be drawn on what the teenager was planning to do.

"He obviously had a reason for going there... at this stage I don't think it's appropriate to speculate on what he was doing, we are still piecing that together," he said.

He also would not say whether Jack knew anyone in the Murdunna area.

Police held concerns for the welfare of Jack, who is one of 12 children.

Search efforts on Sunday were focused on Buckland Road after reports of two possible sightings of the boy there.

The rescue helicopter was called in to help.

Also providing assistance was a group of local four-wheel drive owners and horse riders, who continued to search last night after most emergency services personnel were stood down.

Meanwhile in New South Wales, police have confirmed that an 11-year-old girl missing from Sydney's eastern suburbs has been found.

Michelle Levy went missing on Saturday night after she left her North Bondi home after a family argument.
