Vic footy final abandoned after brawl

Brawling players and fans have brought a Melbourne football grand final to an inglorious half-time end.

A fight broke out at a the game between Mount Waverley and Carrum Patterson Lakes in Heatherton on Saturday.

Witnesses said that as one of the teams left the ground, they were jeered and heckled by opposing supporters.

Up to 20 people joined in the ensuing melee, with one person taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Southern Football League division three grand final was abandoned when one of the teams refused to return to the ground.

"The Southern Football League is now fully investigating this matter," a league statement released on Saturday said.

"The Southern Football League will now consider the appropriate course of action with regards to the abandonment of today's match."

Police have not laid any charges and are still investigating the brawl.
