Dubbo man pleads not guilty to burning 2-year-old boy in bath

A man accused of putting a two-year-old boy into a scalding hot bath at Dubbo has pleaded not guilty in court.

The 23-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared via video link at Dubbo Local Court yesterday.

The man said nothing while his lawyers made an official plea of not-guilty.

Police allege the man immersed the 2-year-old boy in a hot bath in February and caused serious burns to about 17 percent of his body.

Documents tendered to the court show the man had a relationship with the boy's mother.

They reveal police interviewed the boy but he was either unresponsive or repeated the phrase 'burnt bath'.

The man applied for bail in March but it was refused due to the seriousness of the offence.

He remains in custody and is due to appear before the Dubbo District Court in October.
