Alleged Qld prison escapees charged
Two inmates from a northern Queensland prison will front court accused of breaking out and spending four days on the run.
The men, aged 19 and 20, allegedly fled the low-security farm at the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre, west of Cairns, early on Sunday.
Senior Sergeant James Coates says the men were arrested at a house in the Cairns suburb of Edmonton just after noon (AEST) on Wednesday.
"Initially they put up a certain level of resistance but due to our numbers it was quickly overcome," he told reporters in Cairns.
The teenager has been charged with eleven offences including escaping lawful custody, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and obstructing police.
The older man was charged with ten offences including escaping lawful custody, burglary, obstructing police and evading police.
Both are set to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday.
A third prisoner, 19, allegedly fled alongside the pair but was recaptured on Sunday.
He is facing fresh charges of escaping unlawful custody, burglary, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and unlicensed driving.
