Sydney man loses fingertip in dog attack

A Sydney man's had part of his finger bitten off after stepping into a neighbour's yard.

Police say the Bode Place, St Clair man was set upon about 5.45pm on Saturday by a brown Staffordshire terrier, which bit through one of his fingers at the second knuckle.

The finger tip has been recovered and the man is being treated at Westmead Hospital.

"Police from St Marys Local Area Command attended the address," NSW Police said in a statement.

"The animal also attacked these officers, who tried to subdue it with OC spray."

The dog was captured in a nearby street and investigations continue.
