Vic woman tried to snatch toddler, police

An 18-year-old woman has been accused of trying to snatch a three-year-old child from her family in central Melbourne.

Police say the woman approached the girl, picked her up and walked away in Federation Square about 11am on Sunday.

The child's family reacted quickly and chased her down to retrieve the toddler.

The accused woman, who is of no fixed address, has been charged with child stealing and remanded to face Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday.
