Rowdy scenes as Tasmanian Speaker comes under attack

Tasmania's new Speaker has come under attack for the first time, over claims she is allowing Government Ministers to get away with not answering questions.

Question Time became rowdy when Greens Leader Kim Booth sought clarification about subsidies to Forestry Tasmania.

He asked the Treasurer to rule out lending the company money and forgiving the state-owned companies any debt.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein replied, saying the Government was going to rebuild the business.

Greens MP Nick McKim erupted, saying: Ha, ha, ha - no answer whatsoever."

Mr Booth tried to ask a supplementary question, but was denied.

Labor MP Lara Giddings sought to give the new Speaker Elise Archer advice.

"If you set a precedent that goes against the Standing Orders and the understanding of how the Westminster System operates, that is not a good way for you to begin your time as the Speaker," she said.

Ms Archer stood her ground, giving Mr McKim a first and final warning for continued interjections.

She rejected numerous requests for supplementary questions.
