Bus drivers' union planning 24-hour strike next week

Bus commuters are being urged to make alternative arrangements next week as the Transport Workers’ Union plans a 24-hour strike for Thursday.

The union said Southlink drivers have knocked back another offer from the company, prompting what is likely to be the most disruptive industrial action in Adelaide in 10 years.

Those most affected will be passengers travelling along South Rd and Main North Rd.

“The operators have had enough, they’re sick and tired of them not listening to them,” Ian Gonsalves from the TWU said.

“This is their only option.

“It’s simply conditions, the money is not the issue.”

Some drivers are still not collecting fares as part of the ongoing industrial action.

The union said that has cost taxpayers more than $2 million.

The South Australian Government has warned both sides there could be consequences if the dispute escalates.

A decision on the strike action will be finalised on Monday.
