Two women hit by truck

An elderly woman and her daughter were thrown into the air after being hit by a tipper truck and trailer at a busy intersection in Melbourne's south-west.

The Burmese women, aged in their 80s and 50s, were struck as they attempted to cross Duncans Road at Werribee.

The older woman suffered serious head injuries.

Both women were taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.

The truck driver is helping police with their investigation.

Meanwhile, an out of control car has slammed into a shop front at Bentleigh East.

It is understood an elderly driver and his passenger escaped the crash unharmed.
