Liberals snare win in Hindmarsh

The Liberal party has taken just one seat from Labor in South Australia.

Liberal candidate Matt Williams appears certain to claim victory in Hindmarsh.

Labor’s Steve Georganas has held the seat for almost 10 years, but Mr Williams has enjoyed a strong swing of almost 8 per cent.

Mr Williams addressed supporters at the Arkaba Hotel just before 9pm, but stopped short of declaring a definite victory in the tightly-contested seat.

Labor has managed to hold onto other seats considered as possibilities to be snared by the Liberals.

Nick Champion is expected to hold onto the seat of Wakefield in Labor heartland by a narrow margin while Kate Ellis has held on to the seat of Adelaide despite a swing to Liberal candidate Carmen Garcia.

Hindmarsh is the only seat expected to change hands in South Australia.
