New cameras to keep an eye on Adelaide Oval

The new cameras will compliment existing CCTV in the CBD.

New surveillance cameras will be installed around Adelaide Oval in a bid to control unruly sports fans and even stop trouble before it starts.

They are the front line weapons in controlling unruly crowds, and are increasingly being used to help solve crimes as proven by in the Boston Marathon bombing.

The Federal Government has provided $500,000 for five cameras along King William Rd to the city centre

“We want to stamp out crime on the streets of Adelaide, we want to make sure that people enjoy a safe day out,” federal MP Kate Ellis said.

Roaming police patrols will be able to access the video from the convenience of an iPad.

New technology not only provides a level of face recognition, but also can pin-point problems and locations where crimes are likely to occur, before they even happen.

The cameras will compliment surveillance on the new Torrens footbridge and 70 other CCTV cameras across the CBD.

And it is good news for the Adelaide City Council too.

“What we’re really interested in is the improved technology which will apply throughout the whole system,” Deputy Lord Mayor Michael Llewellyn-Smith
