Fugitive arrested over vampire gigolo murder

One of Victoria's most wanted men has been arrested in Perth over the 2003 murder of self-proclaimed 'vampire gigolo' Shane Chartres-Abbott.

Western Australia Police arrested 45-year-old Mark Adrian Perry, who has been on the run for a decade, at a factory in the Perth suburb of Morley last night.

Shane Chartres-Abbott, 29, was shot dead in the suburb of Reservoir, in Melbourne's North, on the day he was to face court over a violent rape.

It is alleged Mr Perry ordered Mr Chartres-Abbott's demise as revenge for a bizarre and brutal attack on his former girlfriend.

The 30-year-old woman was found lying unconscious in a South Yarra hotel room in 2002.

Chartres-Abbott was accused of repeatedly raping her, beating her and biting off part of her tongue.

He claimed he was a 200-year-old vampire who drank blood to survive.

A $1 million reward was offered in 2009 for information on Perry's whereabouts.

Victorian detectives from the Briars taskforce travelled to Western Australia to apply for Mr Perry's extradition to Victoria.

The order was granted in the Perth Magistrates Court this afternoon and he is expected to return tomorrow to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Two other men were charged over the murder in March 2008 and October 2012 and are serving time in jail.
