Men 'bashed for being too old'

Two men, one of whom was in Brisbane for cancer treatment, were allegedly punched to the ground and kicked in the head at The Victory Hotel by a man who thought they looked "too old to be there".

Dylan Bradley Castle, 32, was refused bail at Brisbane Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after the alleged attack which left the men, aged 64 and 73, with serious injuries, News Limited has reported.

The men were at the hotel for dinner at 7pm on Monday night, ahead of medical appointments scheduled for Tuesday for the younger man who had cancer.

It is understood they were in Brisbane from Hervey Bay.

Police said the men were leaving the hotel when Castle, who had earlier been pacing around the beer garden and "staring" at them, allegedly approached them from behind.

It is alleged he punched them to the ground before hitting and kicking them in the head and body.

It was alleged he thought the men were "too old to be there".

Castle was arrested in the Queen St Mall shortly afterwards.

Castle, who represented himself, said nothing when the court asked him what he had to say in regards to his bail application.

Magistrate Stuart Shearer refused bail, adding the attack was unprovoked and there was a risk he would commit further offences.

He remanded Castle in custody to reappear on August 19.
